Webinar From Farm to Server? The EU data governance framework and what it means for farmers in Europe
7 March 2024, 15:00 – 16:30 CET
Over the past few years, the EU has developed a legislative framework for data and digital technologies and services. However, the impact of this framework on food and agriculture in Europe, and on small-scale farming in particular, is unclear. Agriculture has not been a major concern during the political process of drafting the various EU acts, and the participation of agricultural actors has been virtually non-existent. As a result, the EU data governance framework and the farming sector remain worlds apart.
This webinar aims to provide a space for reflection on the relevance of the emerging European framework for small and medium-scale farmers in Europe. How will it shape the future of European agriculture in a context of corporate-led digitalisation? Can it provide tools to address the risks of digital technologies for peasant farming? Or could it even contribute to the further marginalisation of peasants? We would like to discuss these and other questions at the event among peasant organizations, CSOs and critical researchers.
Inputs by:
- Katarzyna Kosior, Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute, Poland
- Jessica Amendolara, Agriculture Attaché – Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU
Followed by a moderated discussion.
The event will be in English.
